“Students around the world should fight for the future of their planet, as the brunt of this crisis will impact younger generations the most.”

It’s no surprise that climate change is affecting the globe. Hundreds of millions of trees are being cut down and burned down. Around three trillion tons of ice have melted away since 1992 in Antarctica, and global temperatures have risen above average since the 1970s.

Students around the world should fight for the future of their planet, as the brunt of this crisis will impact younger generations the most.

How to Help as a Student

Join Advocacy Groups

Students should get involved in groups or create their own club devoted to teaching sustainability. In Prince William, students can join the Greater Prince William Climate Action Network (a local community that influences climate policy in Prince William). Patriot students can also join the school’s Eco Club and learn how to live a more eco-friendly life.

Spreading Awareness

The signs of climate change seem to be clear to everyone. Or so you think. Unfortunately, another problem revolving around climate change is science denial. Conspiracy Theorists and other science-deniers don’t believe in the impending doom of climate change. On the internet, skeptics have been coming up with conspiracy theories such as how the government has been creating “weather machines.”

Students should take the time to learn about climate change. They can watch many interesting documentaries about the topic by National Geographic. They should also frequent websites where they can find accurate and reliable information such as the National Centers for Environmental Information (NOAA)

It is imperative to stop the spread of misinformation surrounding climate change. By educating ourselves, we can tackle this issue.

Replace your plastic water bottle

Ditch the plastic water bottle. End of discussion.

Don’t litter

There are 8 million tons of plastic waste in the Earth’s major oceans. Let’s not contribute to that.

Reach out to legislators

Pick up the phone and write a letter to your legislator. Your voice has the power to make change.
